Resume and Interview Tips
When applying for teaching positions, tailor your resume to showcase all the related experience you possess in the field.
Even if you've never held a formal teaching position, listing substitute teaching experience on your resume gives interviewers an idea of your potential capabilities.
However, don't list all substitute teaching experience in the same way.
Evaluate your teaching experience in each position, then decide where it should go on your resume.
List substitute teaching experiences under the heading of "Professional Experience."
List the name of the school district in which you performed substitute teaching, the district's location and the dates of your service.
Write a summary of your experience -- grade levels, subjects, number of students, lesson plans you created -- using action verbs to engage the reader.
For example, "Planned and implemented Grade 4 math and science lessons dealing with the planets and fractions for 42 students over a period of six weeks.
Group substitute teaching experiences by school district, not by individual schools in the district unless you have limited experience.
