Resume and Interview Tips

Resume Help for Teachers
By:Mary Jane

If you are applying for a teaching position, you should create a resume that allows your experience and expertise to shine. According to the Best Sample Resume website, teachers should include four important elements. These are personal identification, teaching experience, certification and any related experience. However, you should not limit yourself to these categories if you have additional facts that could help you stand out from other candidates.

Personal Identification
The first part of a teacher's resume should consist of a personal identification section. Include your legal name, personal address, phone number and email address. However, the section is split into two parts. The second part should give the employer an idea of who you are as a teacher. Include your career objectives and a list of the areas or classes you are legally able to teach.

Teaching Experience
You also should include a point-form list of your previous teaching experiences in terms of skills and abilities. Present this information in a neat and organized manner, such as columns or a structured list. Include information like creating a semester schedule, finding literature or teaching materials, classroom management skills, teaching methods and dealing with students who have special needs. Directly under the list of skills and abilities, include a list of teaching employers with the school or institution's name and time of employment. Remember to include your title during employment.

Education and Certifications
Proper education, training and certification are important factors for an employer. List your teaching education in reverse chronological order, so the most recent is listed first. Include the name of the institution, the degree program name and the date of graduation. Name your minors and majors, so the employer can see the areas in which you are qualified to teach. Include your certification information, such as the institution that issued your certificate and certification number.

Related Experience
Paid working experience may not be the only related or applicable experience you have. Include a list of related experience, such as unpaid volunteering experience and any teaching courses you may have completed to support your teaching experience. Under this section, you should also include any awards you have received that relate to teaching. Add an additional skills section that shows your abilities in regards to languages, computers and software programs.
