How to Write an Elementary Education Resume
By:S. Herlihy

An elementary education resume is an important tool for anyone seeking an elementary education job. Elementary educators help students obtain a firm educational foundation during their formative years. If you are an educator with a specialty in elementary education or a new graduate, a well-conceived resume is an essential job search asset. Your elementary education training will act as your calling card when searching for education jobs. Your resume should emphasize your educational background and teaching experience.

Gather all academic materials in advance. You should have copies of all your transcripts on hand before you begin. This includes undergraduate and graduate transcripts. A college transcript will list all courses that you have taken. Without transcripts you may not remember the exact name of the school where you did your student teaching or how many credits you took in elementary music education. The college transcript can help jog your memory as you craft your elementary education resume.

Begin writing the resume. You should include your name, address, phone number and email address at the top of the page. If possible create a separate professional email address that you can use for job contacts. The email address should include your name and might include your specialty. For example janedoe_elementaryspecialeducationteacher@gmail.com would help indicate your name and your specific area of specialization to anyone reading the email.

List your most recent teaching assignments first. Include the full name of the school and the city where the school is located. Indicate if the school is public or private. List the grades you taught at the school as well as how long you taught and the dates of employment. If you are a recent graduate, you can list your student teaching credentials here. Note the fact that this was a stint in student teaching rather than a fully paid position. Your elementary education resume should include all teaching experience in this section.

List your undergraduate and graduate degrees next. Write down the names of any relevant courses you took while studying, such as elementary science education. If you have an additional major such as English or political science, you should also list it here. If you speak another language, include that in this section as well.

Add any additional relevant work experience and all other work experience. The list might include time spent as a summer camp counselor or work as an undergraduate tutor. You can list any volunteer work you've done here as well, such as working with disadvantaged children in a local library.
