Coping With Those Words That Hurt
By:Dan Watson

The issue that humans face is our handling the impact of everyday words on our self-esteem and self-confidence. It is very typical that we react to words as if they were real objects and not just words. Words are just temporary and, given how much we speak and use words, any comment or commentary is just a few words out of the many we have spoken or heard. But, we often take words as gospel, no matter the source. When we do, our self-confidence waivers and our self-doubts increase.

So, what can you do to handle our sensitivity to words. First, identify what your main strengths and weaknesses. Be brutal, name the names and begin to truly accept that you aren't perfect, you just are. Second, commit yourself to a course of self-improvement and self-growth. Third, everyday that you follow this course, recognize that you are working to improve those areas that are weak and strengthen your long suits. Make sure that, before you go to bed, you take the time to see your positive changes. Fourth, find others that are pursuing your same course.

This means that they are working to become better in some area and would generally make better friends due to common interests. Fifth, keep track of your improvements. It is too easy to ignore our positive progress and think only of our short comings. Sixth, take the time to reward yourself. The primary point in this is that you use your time to do things that make you happy because you have made yourself happier because you are improving. Though this list is not complete, you can see that we can develop our self-worth in fairly short order if we make it a priority in our lives.
