A good place to start would be right there at your own desk and on your own computer. The web has many interesting, helpful sites where you can begin your research.

I think it interesting to note, though, that you have clearly outlined how daunting a task English teaching can be. Had you taken a genuine certification class, you would have found that much of what you have mentioned here would have been addressed; moreover, you would have had ample practice in an environment that may not have seemed quite so intimidating.

My advice is to hang in there as long as you can. Talk with other teachers. Discuss your concerns with your superiors and admit that you have a ways to go. Meanwhile, make your classes as communicative as possible and you'll probably find that the rest will follow in due course. Involve your students in role playing and situational skits. Be involved with them instead of in front of them. A good language teacher will find a way to move from teaching to facilitation and from there to partnership. When students realize that you are sharing in a process instead of just being the authority figure, they will start making dramatic steps forward, and so will you.
