How to Write a Resume for a Magazine Internship
By:Ashley Lorelle

An internship resume differs from other resumes because, according to Hope College, the goal of an internship is to help you gain experience in a particular field of interest. The average resume is reviewed in just 20 seconds, so create a clean and well-designed resume that catches the employer's eye. Your magazine internship resume should inform the potential employer of your knowledge and skills relating to the magazine industry. An academic background in magazine writing and design will help you earn a magazine internship.

Include your contact information at the top of the resume, including a phone number and an email address where the magazine can reach you.

Write about your objective. In this case, you are seeking an internship at a magazine.

List your education and areas of study, including your major, minor and overall GPA. List all the courses you took in college, or are taking in college, relevant to the internship, such as: magazine writing, design and editing, photography and communication.

List the skills you have relevant to a magazine internship including: HTML, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator experience; as well as, computer experience and writing, photography and editing skills.

Name all the activities you participated in during college, especially ones that demonstrate your experience in magazines, such as college magazine clubs, literary journals and newspapers. Remember to use action verbs to describe your experience with each organization and what you contributed.

Write down your work experience, including magazine-related jobs and internships. Use action verbs to describe your duties for each job, your accomplishments at each job and any skills you earned during each job.

Include a small list of your other interests at the bottom of your resume.
