How To Make Moving Less Stressful
By:Tess Brinums

Plagued with doubt about moving? Not sure how to start the packing process? Well let me give you a head start.

1. Organisation is key.
First of all, make sure you make a checklist. For what exactly, is your decision because it depends on you. Do you need a list of inventory so you know exactly what you're taking to your new home? Maybe you need a list of steps to check off during the process. Whatever you need, make lists and stay organised. The action of having lists and ticking things off will make you feel like you're making progress and make the whole process far less stressful in the long run.

Keeping on the theme of organisation, make sure you take packing one room at a time. It's no use getting flustered and running from room to room in a state of disarray. Packing up one room at a time will not only make the process faster, it will make you feel like you are accomplishing more as you move from one finished room to the next. And label each box according to what its contents are and what room it belongs to. Again, this will make unpacking a much lesser task.

The most important part of the organisation process is starting early. There is nothing worse that arriving at moving day with nothing organised. It becomes a hugely stressful process without organisation. So plan well and plan ahead.

2. Pack sensibly.
When you think about it, this one's a no-brainer. If you're using boxes, pack heavier items on the bottom, medium weighted items in the middle and lighter items on top. This will make unpacking much easier and will ensure your lighter items aren't damaged by heavier belongings.

It's also advisable to use moving boxes rather than regular cardboard boxes as the former is more reinforced and better equipped to protect your items during the moving process. You can usually get these boxes from most movers.

3. Take the opportunity to throw out old and unwanted items.
Moving is the perfect opportunity to throw out items you've collected over the years that you no longer need. Packing only what you want to take with you saves times and money, and gives you the perfect chance to start fresh. Many people see this process as very important while moving because it allows you to physically throw out old things and transition more smoothly into this new phase of your life.

4. If in doubt, hire help!
No one said that you have to attempt this entire process alone, even if it is with the help of family and friends. Some people prefer to hire an independent company right from the outset because it makes the moving process quicker and smoother. Professional movers know how to transport trickier items too such as furniture and heavier items. Many also have a safe-transport guarantee to ensure that all of your belongings arrive in complete safety in no time at all. Hiring external help doesn't have to cost the earth either. Many companies are more committed to providing better service and an easy moving experience rather than chasing high-priced rewards. Ask about their rates and request a quote before hand so you have an idea of the type of service that is available to you. More often than not, you'll be better off in hiring professional help because it will save you time, money, and stress.
