In response to Scammed by homestay programme (catherine barry)

I almost got sucked in too, but didnt send any money; told then it had to wait 2 weeks to clear. Bad enough that I turned away good legitimate local renters for this international scam just because the scammers sent the deposit. Still coming from the yahoo account. Looked like a good cashier's check drawn on US Bank. But when they asked me to refund the overage directly to the youngster (same address) to help with her transportation costs and wanted it immediately via Western Union, I said I could not rufund the overage until the funds all cleared, not when the deposit became available. I started to become suspicious when the writer kept thinking I was a mother and that the youngster never replied about specifics like shool hours and transportation etc. All this melodramatic crap about grandma getting sick and then funeral arrangements, they even set pictures of the unhappy girl. And at some level my heart is broken as I was looking forward to an international student who was not a boy from Saudi Arabia. I'm going to fight the bank charge for the deposit check bouncing. Now I don't have the renter's deposit to cover my mortgage payment.
