Firstly, it makes no sense for them to want you to come without your husband, unless they plan on taking advantage of you. Lone women working as English teachers are easy prey. No doubt they don't want your hubby along. You would do well to check with the visa bureau for that country to see if what they are telling you is true. I find it strange they say you can not get a dependent visa, check with this countries consulate and visa office for yourself.

No, they have not asked any money from you, that doesn't mean they will not. A real job that is decent will not give you this much confusion and doubt. That is your instincts trying to tell you that you should not take this job. You however are desperate, and they know this, you are easy prey. They may be waiting until you have committed yourself more, perhaps you did not think of that. You get a visa, a plane ticket, and then out of the blue they inform you have some fee for a visa, or something else that sounds legit. Maybe they will say "Oh it is standard procedure, and we did not think to mention it", or something like that. Once you are more committed, you will be much more likely to shell over money. Even if they do not ask for money, so what. You get there, they change to agreement, what can you do? You are a female alone in a "Muslim" country, good luck getting any satisfaction. You're alone and without your hubby, as they like it.

No, I would not go there at all. Every time I have ignored my gut I get screwed, when I listen, I do not. You need to listen to your gut now, because I am not you and even I am concerned and see tons of waring signs. I can almost certainly, guarantee you based upon 10 plus years experience teaching abroad that you will end up getting screwed in some way if you take this job. Do not do it.

Go to this boards international jobs section and search for jobs in "Japan". From everything I have seen, heard, and more importantly not heard, that is one of the best places to teach ESL at the moment. it is a country of stern laws, where foreign teachers have rights, and you have plenty of recourse. Also, there you don't have the gray areas that you do in places like China, or the place you are thinking about going.

If you have a degree, getting decent work in Japan, or in another country with a good reputation for education is not hard. The Japanese are English crazy as well, and they pay decently. Do not go to the middle east, at least not in this case.
