Resume and Interview Tips

Resume - What To Include
By:Abhishek Agarwal

When you sit down to write you resume, you should start by determining what it is that you want to accomplish. Often people make the mistake of thinking that a resume must include anything and everything that has to do with the job position and also lot of interesting things about themselves. Resume writing, though, is a writing that is extremely specific and aims at providing the employer with very relevant and specific information regarding the candidate's knowledge, abilities and skills that relate to the position being offered.

In order to ensure that the resume writing is direct and focused, it is recommended that you start with the general categories. This includes education, extracurricular specialties, experience and skills that directly relates to the position or job posting. A list should be made under each heading with points that can be read easily by the employer to understand why he should offer you an interview. Always remember that the resume will not get you a job, it will only get you an interview. It is in the interview that you can expand on your resume and give your employer all the additional information.

In designing your resume layout, ensure that looks crisp, clean and business like. Flowery graphics and fonts are completely irrelevant while writing a resume. Always stick to formal text type fonts that are legible and display professionalism. In resume writing, always chronologically list the information, from the latest education, work and achievements to the past ones. Include only the information that is of relevance to the position specifically and not everything that you can think of.

Clearly indicate the degree you have earned, the name of your institute and year of passing in the education section of your resume. In the work experience section be sure to include the number of years you have worked, the position or title you have held and some brief statements about the responsibilities and duties you have undertaken under each. Don't use any job specific acronyms, jargons and slangs that cannot be comprehended by the person reading your resume.

Remember to add all additional relevant experiences or certifications that you are unable to fit under the experience or education headings. But make sure that it relates to the job postings or the advertisement. Many experts on resume writing recommend the resume to have an objective statement, but these statements need to be changed and customized for each job applications as each differs. There can never be one standard statement for every job.
