Resume and Interview Tips

How to Make a Resume - The Secrets
By:Richard Adams

When it comes to the question of how to make a resume then there are 3 vital elements we need to consider:
1) The presentation of your resume

2) What you actually say on your resume

3) The layout of your resume

Your presentation skills when it comes to your resume are essential whether you are applying for a managing directors job or a part time shop assistant.
In fact, this alone can be a deciding factor in job seeking, even for the most basic of jobs. Quite simply, many people assume that for the more basic jobs you need to make less effort but nothing could be further from the truth. Indeed, being willing to do that little bit extra can really make you stand out from the crowd as someone worth calling for an interview.
For consideration are the following elements:
a) What paper to use

b) What font to use

c) What color ink to use

d) Whether to include a cover letter

e) Whether to post or hand deliver your resume

Here are my suggestions based on literally thousands of resumes that I have created for myself or for clients, or have received from potential employees:

Use good quality paper. Pay the difference and print your resume on the more expensive, thicker paper available from any good stationer rather than the standard lightweight printer paper that most people buy in bulk.
I would suggest using either white or vallum paper for a professional look with black ink.
Use a sensible, grown-up font like Times New Roman at 12 point rather than one of the more "fun" (read "unprofessional") typefaces.

Always include a brief cover letter with your resume, using the recruiters name if you have it (again it adds to the impact) and place the whole thing into an envelope of similar paper to the resume and cover letter so it all matches.

With your resume and cover letter folded into an envelope, all made from good quality paper, the final package will feel hefty, important and will garner the attention you are seeking.
For best results print the name of the recipient onto the envelope using your computer's printer and hand deliver it so you know it got there safely.

It goes without saying that when you drop off the envelope ensure you are dressed smartly and have your best smile on as you will be making a first impression that can have a huge effect on your success.
