Not sure if you can use that great temp job on your resume? You can! Here's how to list temp work on your resume to get a great job or job promotion.

FOLLOW RESUME FORMAT

The format of you temp job entry should be exactly the same as other employment history entries on your resume.

ALTER THE JOB TITLE

If your temporary position was "Executive Secretary", it should be listed as "Executive Secretary, Temporary".

Example:

Big Business Corporation Toledo, Ohio
Executive Secretary, Temporary 2007 - 2008

You do not need to further reference the temporary nature of the position within the job description. An interviewer will ask if they have questions.

PUT IN REGULAR "EXPERIENCE" CATEGORY

You do not need to create a separate category for temp jobs on your resume. Simply add the listing to your "Experience" section in the appropriate chronological order.

LISTING THE AGENCY

To list the agency AND the assignments, there are 2 methods.

ONLY ONE ASSIGNMENT

If you only have one assignment from the agency to list, you should combine the assignment and agency into a single entry. If you spent your entire history with the agency working for on a single assignment, you would list the assignment and make mention of the agency in the job description. If you have a long history with an agency, but you only choose to list one assignment, you should list the entry by the agency and make reference to the company within the job description.

MULTIPLE ASSIGNMENTS FROM AN AGENCY

If you plan to list multiple assignments from a single agency, it is best to list those entries individually under a subcategory for the agency.
