Resume and Interview Tips

Good Job Interview Techniques
By:Sarah Kathleen Hedman

Job interviewing is a process in which an well-studied and prepared individual will excel. Just as a vocation requires a specific skill set, interview skills can be mastered. A well-executed interview will leave a favorable impression on future employers.

Preparation
Research the company with whom you are interviewing. Review history, earnings and management structure. Familiarize yourself with the position that you are applying for. Examine your future responsibilities. Correlate your professional skills and strengths with the position. Highlight unique professional that you bring to the table. Get plenty of rest and eat a light breakfast prior to the interview.

Rehearsal
Rehearse interview questions. While you may not be aware of every question that your interviewer may ask, many interview questions are standard. Consider your finest work qualities and rehearse ways to highlight those qualities during the interview process. If asked what your personal weaknesses are, answer with a positive such as "sometimes, I find that I am too driven, " or "I tend to be a perfectionist." See the reference section below for sample interview questions.

Apperance
Dress for success. Regardless of what position you are applying for, a groomed interviewee will leave a positive impression. Always dress your best for an interview. Professional suits and shoes are essential. Suits can be purchased relatively inexpensively at discount stores. At the very least, wear dress pants and a jacket. Make sure that your shoes are clean and professional. Dress modestly and avoid revealing clothing. Make sure that your hair and nails are well groomed. Avoid chewing gum or breath mints during the interview. Be aware of odors and avoid smells from pets, foods or cigarette smoking.

Interview
Relax and enjoy the interview process. Allow the interviewers to see your genuine personality, not the stress that you may be feeling. Use your best English grammar skills during the interview. Exhibit good manners. Shake hands with your interviewers and look them directly in the eye when addressing them. Always be at least 15 minutes early for an interview. Make sure that your cell phone, pager or PDA is turned off during the interview.
