Resume and Interview Tips

Resume Career Objectives for Teachers
By:Alyson Paige

Every element of a resume has to impress the reader and impress him quickly. Form a teaching objectives paragraph to summarize your career, advises the Job Interview & Career Guide website. Your objective paragraph can communicate what you bring to the table and how you plan to develop your skills and talents for the benefit of the students and the school. Write a teaching career objective using information from the position posting as a guideline. Design an objectives statement to draw the prospective employer further into your qualifications, experience and skills detailed in the body of your resume.

Type of Position
An objective statement can introduce your objectives paragraph by informing the hiring authority that you are qualified to apply for the posted teaching position. If, for example, you are applying for a high school special education teaching position, include a statement noting those important details. Include in the first line of the objective your specific qualifications as they relate to the position. You might write, for example, "Seeking a special education teaching position in which I can apply my LBS1 Special Education certification."

Experience
Use your resume objective paragraph to highlight your relevant teaching experience. Briefly and pointedly, inform the reader that you have the requisite experience for the position. Tell the hiring person about the type and the extent of relevant experience you offer. Write a line something like "With a master's degree in English literature, I have taught English literature in private and public secondary schools for 10 years."

Skills
A teaching career objective may list key skills for successful and professional teachers. Let the hiring authority know that you possess skills to perform your responsibilities at peak levels. Key teaching skills, as listed by the Job Interview & Career Guide, include but are not necessarily limited to: high energy, superior verbal and written communication skills and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing classroom situations.

Professional Development
Career objectives in resumes may include brief information about the arc of your professional development to date and the direction in which you are prepared to head. A hiring person at a public high school can benefit from knowing, for instance, that you received certification for dealing with at-risk high school students. Provide the name of the seminar, the date(s) you attended and the certification you received.
