Resume and Interview Tips

How to Prepare for Teacher Interview Questions, Top 5 Rules
By:Collaborator

Teacher interview questions are in a category all by themselves. While most principals want to know your knowledge, they also want to know where your heart is. Whether trying to find your first teaching job or looking to make a change within a district, read on to learn the top five rules of preparation for the teaching interview questions.

Take along your resume — even if you have already submitted one — and a portfolio that serves as a visual aide for the principal and anyone sitting in on the interview. Wear dark colors, such as gray or black. Be aware of your movements while answering teacher interview questions. If you are a nail biter or change rattler, keep your hands together in your lap or on the table.

Anticipate questions and rehearse your answers. If asked to name your greatest weakness, for example, have a well-thought-out response that shows you are capable of self-criticism without being self-demeaning.

Know your classroom management system. Interviews for teaching positions always come around to classroom management. Interviewers want to know that you are capable of establishing and maintaining control of a classroom.

Construct a mental library of your resources. A principal who asks what you use besides textbooks expects to hear a list of credible sources from which you prepare lessons. An indication that you value and rely on resources provided by your state department of education might be advantageous. Don't make such an indication, however, unless it is accurate. The next question might be, "Such as?"
