Resume and Interview Tips

How to Make a Teaching Resume

A teaching job can be rewarding and the first step to being hired is to write a professional resume. It is important that you take time writing your resume to avoid errors. You may even enlist the service of a professional resume writing service. A professionally written resume can be the key getting an interview for a teaching position.

Include contact information. Your resume should begin with your name and address. Also include a phone number where you can be reached in the event you are offered an interview.

Write an objective. Your objective should inform the employer of the type of position that you are seeking. For example, if you seeking a position as an English teacher, your objective may look like this, "English teacher with years of experience seeking a position in a secondary school."

List certifications. A teacher is required to obtain certification and these should be listed on your resume. Include your certificate number and the state that issued your certification. In addition, include the date that the certificate was issued. Be sure to include your specialization, for example indicate if you are certified in secondary mathematics. If you are working to obtain your certification, state your expected date of completion.

List experience. Describe your teaching experience. If you have worked with special needs children, list any special activities or strategies used to manage your students. List the dates of your experience and the grade level of students that you have experience working with. Include the subjects that you taught, such as English, math or social studies. If you have helped to coordinate any special activities or workshops, list your involvement.

List volunteer work. If you don't have teaching experience, list any volunteer positions that involved teaching or tutoring students. You may also include any internships positions took place in an academic setting.

List education. List all colleges that you attended. If you have obtained your bachelor's degree, list your date of graduation. In addition, list the major, such as math, science or English. If you have obtained a master's degree, list the major and the date received.

List achievements. If you have received any awards or recognition, list the type of award and the date received. If you have contributed to or written any publications relating to education, list the name of the publication and the date it was written.
