Resume and Interview Tips

Online Resume Tips
By:Brian G Chadra

Drafting an online resume can cause the same headache as creating the printed kind. What to include, what to leave out etc., etc. For the most part, the basic sections are the same: header, job objective, experience, education, specialty area (certifications, volunteer work, awards for example).

These go basically in that order with a few basic modifications depending on the level of experience. The real stickler is in when the resume is saved and sent off to the company to be evaluated by the human resources person. What is the best format to use and why is this important. Remember, when submitting your resume, it is imperative that the person on the receiving end has an easy time opening your document and being able to read and then print it is necessary.

That cuts down on the choices for formatting and saving the resume. Most people have some form of Microsoft Office at their workplace, so this would seem to be the method of choice for job seekers. If you can't afford this software, use a search engine to find the Open Office suite of applications. They are compatible with Microsoft programs (even offering a save as feature) and will allow you to save money at this time. When choosing to save your document in office, If you are luck enough to have the latest and greatest application suite, be sure to use the "save as 2003 version of Microsoft Word" and not the 2007 version. This is because even though you may have the latest software, not all companies may have upgraded yet. Your resume won't be read because it won't be opened! Don't waste everybody's time because of this simple mistake. Good luck!
