Resume and Interview Tips

Resume Tips and Advice: Target your Resume
By:Brian G Chadra

There are many styles of resumes available to you. Maybe you are looking to download a template that you can use when applying for a job. This is a great time saver and will help you to get organized in that job search. However, this approach is all wrong if you are seriously targeting a specific position or career field. Most employers will see a general resume as run of the mill, lumping it maybe unfairly with all of the others received for a posting. The key here is to make your document stand out from the crowd fairly screaming "LOOK AT ME!"

If you want to have your resume make this kind of statement, then you need to put in a little work to pump up that generic page into one that is customized for your intended occupation. This is not all that hard to do if you know the secret. Carefully read the job advertisement and try to list any key words in the minimum experience and duties section. Now, prepare to insert 2 or 3 of these terms into your job objective section. In this way, you have now targeted your resume specifically to the posting while showing the reader that you are up to date with current terminology used in the field. Remember, the initial reading is done by a human resources person who is trained to skim this mountain of paperwork for key terms.

These papers then go into a pile for consideration by the hiring manager who then calls in his favorites for a personal interview. It is then that you can sell yourself and your capabilities. But getting there requires your resume to get noticed, so get those keywords and place them carefully into your paper. Pretty soon, your phone will start to ring with offers of interviews. Good luck,

Until next time,

Brian
