Resume and Interview Tips

Writing a Comprehensive Resume
By:James Wiley

Resumes are an important tool during your job search, and a good resume can help you stand out against other candidates for a job. When applying for a job, you are usually required to submit a resume, and if your resume is good and your skills match the employer's requirements, you might be offered a job interview. A comprehensive resume highlights all of your strengths and achievements, and shows an employer why you would be a valuable employee and an asset to their organization. Always proofread a resume to look for mistakes.

Type your name in large print at the top of your resume, and underneath in smaller lettering put your e-mail, address, and cell phone number each on a separate, single spaced line.

Write your career objective, which is a quick summary of how you would like to use your skills in a professional atmosphere (For example: To use my strong communication and personal skills to serve in customer service). This objective should be changed to match the type of job you are applying for.

Create a section highlighting your educational background, including colleges you attended and degrees you have earned. If your GPA was 3.0 or higher, note that along with any scholarly awards you achieved (summa cum laude, etc).

Write the another section listing your overall skills, including language skills (if you're fluent in a language other than English) and computer skills.

Type up a section of relevant experience, which covers internships and former employment. You should also include volunteer work in this section.
