How to Put Certifications on a Resume
By:Shemiah Williams

Your resume or curriculum vitae (CV) is a showcase of your experience and education. It should be comprehensive yet strategic.

As it relates to the "Education" section of your resume or CV, certifications are just as important as any advanced degrees. You should include all of them--especially those related to your current career path.

Your resume (or CV) should contain a section titled "Education." You can choose to include it after your contact information and before your work experience; or you can include it at the end. Each degree and professional certification you have received should be listed in this section in the same format.

List each degree and certification you have received in the "Education" section, starting with the most recent first.

List the full name of the certification, the issuing organization or institution and its location and the date issued.

Here is an example:
Certification in Paralegal Studies
Smith College, Chicago, IL
March 2006 to present

Tip: Don't downplay certifications. They are an additional piece to your experience. They are attractive to employers. Because resumes vary, how you choose to list them can vary as well.
