Self Esteem Lesson Plans
By:Ian K Lewis

Having a good self esteem is essential to the overall development of a person. The way someone values himself directly affects his daily tasks and performance, whether it is in the academic or workplace setting. Thus, it is important for anyone to engage in constructive and systematic activities aimed at building self-esteem. One of the best ways to do this is to use self esteem lesson plans. These are well structured educational activities that are specially designed to teach self esteem lessons to students in various age groups.

Self esteem lesson plans are important because it caters to the emotional needs of students. While academic lessons provide intellectual nourishment, self esteem lessons provide the emotional boost and motivation needed by each individual in a particular group or class. Lots of children and teenagers never get the emotional support that they need at home. Others possess feelings of inferiority for not being physically attractive or intellectually competitive. If these problems are not addressed early in life, children might carry them to adulthood. Therefore, developing the personal worth and well being of each individual is extremely vital. This is where lessons and exercises on self esteem play an important role.

Some self esteem lesson plans are interactive in nature. The aim of these types of lessons plans is to raise awareness of personal worth by interacting with others. One example of this type of self esteem exercise is to let each member of the class form a circle. The instructor then prompts each student to list down at least three positive qualities of each member of the class. No negative comments or remarks are allowed. The main objective is to let students discover their own good traits, and also realize how much other people appreciate them. Not only does the exercise raise self esteem, it also develops interpersonal skills and social awareness.

As effective as self esteem lesson plans may be in a teacher-student environment, it is not entirely limited to the classroom. Self esteem lessons and activities can be used for personally initiated efforts for self improvement. For example, reciting positive affirmations aloud is a self esteem activity in itself. This activity helps an individual embed positive messages into his or her subconscious mind. Such positive messages become seeds of motivation and can have a huge impact on one's character.

Without doubt, using self esteem lesson plans is a terrific way to totally eliminate negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. If you want to succeed in any field or endeavor, it is important to change your way of thinking first. Modern psychologists and educators have developed creative ways to plant seeds of positive thought into our minds by means of self esteem lessons, activities and exercises. All you need is to find out which self esteem lesson plans would best suit your needs, and commit yourself to a lifelong quest for personal development.
