A lowly caterpillar now a magnificent butterfly!

Well, it has transformed. You, too, can do the same. Yes, if in the previous years you were lazy or coward or plain dumb, why not change your world into something better and chances are, people around would be amazed on how you become brand new.

People love surprises and your transformation would be one great surprise to them. Imagine, a nobody like you now a somebody. It is good to feel that despite what you have been through, you were able to surmount and now emerging as one successful person.

The world is replete with stories of unknown men and women who were overshadowed by their so-called respectable seniors or what until they were given a chance to change their mindsets and now gaining their confidence doing great work for themselves and others as well.

Being one of them could have been great moral booster, so why not be one, er keep up being one of them this year and the many years to come. Yes, the world is your oyster. You can do what you want, provided it is good and not harmful to you and to others. Yes, there is no limit to excellence, only your attitude could become a hindrance in this regard.

As a student, you must be earning higher grades in your class cards. Yes, you can do so by doing doubly hard in your studies. Why not put in a backseat all your unnecessary activities beyond your academic life and focus on acing out exams, submitting paper works and the like?

As an employee, start now doing your task as excellently as you can. Nary reason to just pretending you are in the thick of something, er your job. Unfinished work assignments or load, must be given priority now. Never ever let them collect dust in your cabinet and cram later.

As a boss, why not observe tact, patience, fairness and the like this year and see changes among your workers' work attitude, etc. A good leader is a good motivator. Be one.

As simple homemaker, get creative by making use of your spare time, say in embroidery, ceramics, basket-making, etc. Never waste your precious time in the couch watching TV, etc. that are unproductive activities.

As a businessman, start giving back blessings to the community, say your customers, workers, etc. and chances are, your business will proper. A sense of helpfulness, and feeling of importance might be your rewards.

Yes, create time for new hobbies or interest or what and chances are you would never again experience a drab life, but rather a vibrant one.

Start the year right by doing the right thing. It does not matter if you are not good at the start as long as you are willing to learn in the process.

The author is a mentor of teachers in elementary grades in the Philippines.
