Motivation Tips

Motivation Advice - 5 Steps For Maintaining Motivation
By:Anthony D Carter

Motivation can come and go so easily. It is something that you must work on in order to sustain high levels of it. I suggest you use these 5 steps for sustaining motivation.
Step 1 - Get a big dream.

A big dream will inspire you to take action. You will feel compelled to act regardless of your circumstances when you have a strong reason why. Sit down and determine the reason behind your aspiration before you start. Once you are clear on the what the reason is then the task is easier for you accomplish.

Step 2 - Get an accountability partner.

Find someone who will hold you accountable to what you say you are going to do. Most of us are highly motivated to keep our word to a person that we respect. An accountability partner can also give you advice. They can provide you with good ideas that you sometimes miss while you are in the heat of battle.

Step 3 - Map out a plan.

Create a step by step plan for doing what you are setting out to do. Take the tendency to rationalize out of your decision making process. Rationalizing is a common habit that can cause us to delay taking action when difficulties arise. Formulate a plan that includes as many steps as you can think of. You want to have a plan mapped out in advance to direct your actions for the future. It is easier to stay motivated when you are striking tasks off of your to do list rather than trying to figure out what to do next on a daily basis.

Step 4 - Take action.

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." ~ Theodore Roosevelt

Nothing happens until you take action. Get in the habit of taking the initiative to make things happen. Never take a passive approach to your responsibilities. All to often we get in a holding pattern. We get stuck waiting for all of our circumstances to be perfect before we start. That is never going to happen, so rather than procrastinating it is better to just start and make your circumstances better as you go along.

Step 5 - Commit to being consistent.

Make a commitment to yourself to remain consistent despite the trials, failures and disappointments that you may face. When you stay consistent you become skillful. As your skills increase you are eventually rewarded with positive results. Positive results give you a feeling of being productive. You feel like you are making progress. Your excitement from witnessing progress leads to you having higher levels of motivation.
