Procrastination - Six Ways to Defeat It
By:Anthony D Carter

Change Habits. Change your habits by making a decision to react to your responsibilities in a proactive way rather than a passive manner. When you procrastinate you usually say, I'll do it later." You have to switch that to "I'll do this right now." Start a new habit by repeating this affirmation to yourself throughout the day: "I do it now"

Make a Short List. Make a short to do list. Mark things off as you get them done. Keep the list short so that you are sure to complete it each day. After you have established the habit then you can increase the number of tasks on your list. Your confidence and excitement will soar as you start striking the completed tasks from your list. You will become more action oriented with each passing day.

Be Accountable. Tell a supportive friend that you want to stop procrastinating and you want her to hold you accountable. Keep them informed about your progress. Let your accountability partner know what your results are on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. This person will be able to help you stick to your plan for improvement.

Reward Yourself. Whatever gets rewarded gets repeated. In order to form new tendencies reward yourself whenever you take action without waiting.

Keep It Going. When you get momentum don't stop. Develop a rhythm with what you are doing. Try to take action on three or four task in a row. Each time you take action immediately rather than putting it off until later you ingrain the desired habit into your personality.

Have Fun. Make a game of taking action. When you take the initiative to get an important task done have fun with if. Treat the action like it is part of a game. See yourself as winning because of the actions that you are taking. Often after doing something that I know I should do I will say, "Yes!!" That display of excitement is a signal to my self image that I made a great move. That is my way of celebrating the fact that I took action.
