Re Marriage in China

I am currently working abroad, as a UK national, and the country I reside in has given me a two year ID card...it only took two days, when you factor the health check into the equation to get it, it can also be used to preload money, so you can pay for things, a "smart card" so to speak, and entitles you to free medical treatment and so on.

Time for China to step up and be the international player it keeps spouting on about, teachers in Japan get unemployment paid by their employers, so at least they got some form of protection...

Yep, there are many counties better than China to ply ones trade but I'm getting too long in the tooth to start learning other languages. Learning Chinese was a total nightmare which used to devour most of my free time. Anyway, they probably wouldn't give me the time of day in Japan because even though i have a degree and TEFL (the tefl is a bit iffy cos I noticed it has the same number on it as one of the other teachers I was working with) but I've never been to teachers' training college.

I have a little bit of extra respect in China which i wouldn't have elsewhere since I'm not an English teacher any longer, although say 20% of the lesson is for English terms they should know. I do not have to entertain and am allowed to be as boring as I want.

As far as getting married in China, it's a piece of cake (cake you may well gag on later) also you certainly have more property rights than say Thailand. I don't know what rights a married foreigner has in Japan or any of the other Asian countries, save Thailand. Anybody know?
