Learn Spanish Phrases - 6 Essential Spanish Phrases You Need to Know
By:Chris J. McWilliams

Learn Spanish phrases - with just a few of them you can start to unlock the door to a new culture and new friends. In this article, I want to give you just a few easy phrases to get started with.

Si/No

This is a basic pair of phrases that everyone needs to know. "Si" (pronounced SEE) means yes and "No" means the same as it does in English!

Hablas ingles?

This phrase means "do you speak English". Here's how you pronounce it: HAH-blahs een-GLESS?

Of course, you could just try speaking English to a Spanish speaking preson but that would be incredibly rude. It is much better for you to ask them in Spanish first.

Gracias

A very important phrase and easy to learn. This means "thank you". Here's how you pronounce it: GRAH-SYASS. The "r" should be rolled on the tongue.

Por favor

This means "please". Just add it to the end of a sentence. So if you want to order a beer (cerveza), just say: Una Cerveza, por favor. Here's how you pronounce it: POR fah-VOR.

Me llamo

Use this before your name to introduce yourself. For example, if your name is John then you would say "Me llamo John". Here's how you pronounce it: ME YAH-mo.

Lo siento

This means "sorry". You can use it if you accidentally bump into someone or make some other kind of mistake. You say it like this: loh SEE-EN-toh.

So, how did you do? I hope you can see that Spanish is really quite easy. It's a phonetic language which means that you just pronounce it in the way that it looks. English is quite the opposite! You probably don't realise it though. By comparison, learning Spanish from scratch is much easier.
