How to Learn German Language
By:M D White

About 75 million people in the world speak German, primarily in the countries of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein. German is not an easy language to learn because of its difficult vocabulary, rigid, syntax, three word genders, and complex case system. However, if you're willing to study and practice it won't be long before you are holding a basic conversation and reading basic German.

Take a class. The traditional way of learning any foreign language is by taking classes. Youngsters will often be given the chance to study German in high school and college. Adults also usually can take German through Continuing Education courses offered at local recreation centers, high schools, community colleges, or universities. Sometimes institutions of higher learning will let students audit classes.

Study at home. Another option to consider for learning German is to study it yourself at home. You can read books on the subject as well as listen to audio tapes or use video tapes to help you. Many online courses are also available -- some for free. To find out what is out there, simply go to your favorite search engine and type in a phrase like "learn German online."

Find a tutor. Another option to consider is hiring a private tutor to conduct one-on-one sessions to help you learn the German language. If you are having a difficult time locating one close to your home, consider searching for a tutor online. Many tutoring companies offer this type of help. Simply search for "online German tutor" to see who you can find to help you.

Look for German clubs or organizations. Check the Yellow Pages or go online to see if you can find any German clubs or organizations you can join. You might also consider contacting a local high school or college that has a German club. Offer to volunteer your services to help them with upcoming events and activities. Also see if they are willing to let you sit in on meetings or even join so that you can learn more about the language and culture.

Immerse yourself. A drastic, but effective, way to learn German would be to stay for an extended period of time in a country that speaks predominantly German. Although this technique is difficult at first, it is also one of the fastest ways to become fluent in the language. Because you are being forced to communicate in another language in order to get your basic needs met, you are much more likely to learn the essential phrases quickly and to have them stick in your memory.
