Venice, Italy, is one of the most charming and romanticised cities in the world. With its unsurpassed beauty, rich history, colourful local culture and the myriad of attractions it offers to visitors, it is no wonder that Venice is considered a must-see when it comes to travel destinations. Visitors tend to reach Venice by train or by boat, however, there are also ways to get there by taking a bus or plane.

By Air - When taking plane, you can choose to land at either the Marco Polo airport or the Treviso airport. The former is located on mainland Italy, near the city of Mestre. The latter is located around twenty-five kilometres from Venice; however, it is quite a busy and bustling airport as many budget flights, such as Ryanair, SkyEurope and Transavia, choose to land here.

From these airports, you can hope onto shuttle buses to Venice. You may also take shuttle buses to the water-bus jetty where you can then hop onto a boat that will take you to San Marco in Venice. This will take you around one and a half hours. For those who prefer a faster and more memorable way of travelling to Venice, you may also hire the water-taxis. This will cost you less but will allow you to fully enjoy the sights and sounds around you.

By Train - There are direct train services from Mestre and even international destinations such as Munich, Budapest, Zagreb and Ljubljana. These will land you at the station from where you can take water buses or taxis to your intended location within Venice. Such train journeys are exceptionally scenic and a travel medium of choice for visitors who want to soak in Venice.

By Bus - There are direct bus services from Mestre. The bus will drop you off at the Piazzale Roma, which is located on the west bank of Venice. Such trips are reasonably priced, run frequently and takes only about half an hour. Locals prefer to take buses, so it is also an opportunity for you to interact with the local Venetians.

By Boat - There are direct ferry services from Greece to Venice. These do not run frequently and you are highly recommended to check the schedules and book your ticket in advance. All such trips will end at the Stazione Marittima, which is located at the west end of the mainland. From here, you will have to take a water taxi or water bus to get to Venice.
