People speak many languages in Miami; however, they conduct business in English. Learn English in Miami to communicate in restaurants, hotels, retail stores and other businesses. Learning English will enable you to speak to a large number of people who speak English and other languages. Learning English will launch your career and increase your circle of friends in Miami.

Take an English Language Class
Take English classes at a university. Schools like Florida International University, the University of Miami and Miami Dade Community College have English classes for English language learners in Miami. Try taking a basic or introductory class if you are just learning English. Intermediate and advanced classes teach conversation skills as well as content for speaking English on the job. In addition to taking the class, consider joining a study group with students from your class.

Speak English Everywhere
Speak English with friends and neighbors at every opportunity. According to an article in The Huffington Post (see Reference section), there are more people in Miami who speak Spanish than English. Miami is a multicultural city where residents and visitors speak a variety of languages, but if you speak Spanish or another language, you should avoid the temptation of speaking your primary language with people you know in Miami. People in Miami appreciate when English language learners practice English, so do not be afraid to try to speak the language, even when you do not speak the language well. Do not be afraid of making errors in English, because English speakers in Miami are typically patient and understanding. Step out of your comfort zone and practice speaking English at every opportunity.

Join a Group
If you have difficulties locating friends who speak English well, join a group with other language learners in Miami. There are several clubs and organizations for people who would like to practice speaking English with others in Miami. Try joining Miami's Practice Your English group. The group has more than 1,500 members (see Resource section). You can meet new friends who are learning English and practice the language.

Get a Tutor
You can find a tutor to help you with your English by placing an advertisement in the "Miami Herald." You can also hang up signs at Miami Dade Community College locations. Choose a native English speaker who will help you practice your conversational skills. Ask your tutor to assist you with your pronunciation while you are speaking. Your tutor can bring newspaper articles for discussing current events in English. The tutor can also review lessons taught in your formal English class.
