Anyone who has tried to learn a foreign language can tell you that it isn't an easy task. Learning a new language involves remembering different vocabulary, using different syntax and sentence structure, and mastering new grammar rules. Learning English is no exception. There are several study tips and learning techniques that can help make the difficult process of learning how to speak everyday English less troublesome.

Acquire a variety of resources, such as books, audio CDs, and computer programs. Using a mixture of resources to help you begin to become familiar with everyday English helps you hear different explanations of words. Repetition is also crucial when learning a new language, so hearing lessons and vocabulary a number of times will help you retain what you're learning. Audio CDs and computer program have the benefit of letting you hear things pronounced. Seeing the written language in books and the materials that accompany can also help you understand what you are saying.

Immerse yourself with English and speak with native speakers. When you surround yourself with English, you force yourself to listen to and speak everyday English. You will be able to practice your pronunciation and the flow of your speech, as well as improve your listening abilities.

Watch English speaking movies and television. While perhaps not quite as beneficial as having a conversation with English speakers, watching movies or television programs that feature English also exposes you to every day English conversations. Hearing English on television or films can also help expand your vocabulary.

Quiz yourself. Make flash cards of common English words. Online, you can find a variety of language quizzes. Quizzing yourself helps you assess your strengths and weaknesses regarding your English abilities and also forces you to use your knowledge of everyday English.
