English is the international language of the world. In addition to being spoken as a mother-tongue in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, English enjoys a status of lingua franca and is a language of commerce, science, sports and culture. Learning English requires time and dedication. However, if you need to master the language of Shakespeare as soon as possible, then you need to learn English intensively.

1

Find the time to learn English. Ideally, you should be learning the language full time, just as you would do a day job. This will create the right attitude and will give you the time needed to learn as many new words and grammatical structures as possible.

2

Sign up for an intensive English course. Use the link in Resources to navigate to the website of the American Association of Intensive English Programs, AAIEP. It has about 300 members in the Unites States. Click on your state on the map that you'll see on the website to see a list of courses available in your state. Click on the courses in your area to find out their descriptions, prices and contact information.

3

Read simplified texts and listen to their recordings. There are many abridged English books that come with audio. Read the books and underline unknown words and find out their definitions in a dictionary. Listen to the audio to improve your understanding of spoken English.

4

Speak English. Without practice, you'll forget much of what you'll learn. Don't be afraid if you don't know a certain word. Also, do not feel embarrassed if your accent is not perfect. There are many CEOs and other important people who speak English with an accent.
