I'm French and I'm taking class in USA to get a TESL certificate.For my TESL class I have to find an idea for a mini lesson.

What would be a good way to teach 3rd grade students how to describe a person (portrait). My focus is mostly working on speaking skills.
What kind of funny activities would be useful to help them to complete this task ?
I was planning to give them first some very typical and limited vocabulary list for description
and then some funny pictures of several clowns (very colorful pictures, different face's expression}.
