Since its establishment in 1915, Hohai University, while taking water resources as its focus, has always strived to acknowledge and encourage these aims, and it has chalked up a large number of brilliant achievements in the process.

The current trend of innovative scientific technologies, accelerating social transformations, and increasing economic globalization has increased demands on higher education to develop and reform itself.

On the solid basis of such disciplines as water resources, civil engineering, environmental resources, electronics, informatics, economics, and business administration, we will advance inter-disciplinary integration and innovation and give prominence to the characteristics of the main disciplines, so as to provide good conditions for students to develop themselves through extensive academic exchange and hands-on learning.

There are over 30,000 degree students studying at the University in 2005, among whom are 7,143 Master and Ph.D. candidates, and 18,648 undergraduate students.

Hohai, with its extensive international exchange and cooperation, is one of the first universities entitled by the State Council to confer the degrees of Doctor, Master and Bachelor upon overseas students. It has trained hundreds of Doctors, Masters and Bachelors for overseas countries and districts, and has established the inter-universities cooperative relationships with nealy 50 universities from more than 20 countries and districts.
