The area known as Glenealy was a real beauty spot in the 1880's. It was a well-known picnic spot and the fashionable people would enjoy their splendid lunches in its peaceful surroundings and leafy retreat. Before the founding of Modern Hong Kong, this vale was full of ferns and trees, watered by a gently trickling stream which now disappears into a nullah that runs below Wyndham Street. Glenealy, in fact, started out as Elliot's Vale, named after Hong Kong's first administrator, Captain Charles Elliot, R.N. However, he proved to be very unpopular and the name was changed to Glenealy.

Glenealy School originated on its present site in 1959. A brand new school replaced the original building in 1988. It has twelve class bases, a large library, main hall, ICT suite, a kitchen, music room, science room, early years' room, art room and adequate play space at ground-level and on the roof. Glenealy is one of nine ESF primary schools and, with 360 on roll; it is one of the smallest. ESF schools provide an education based on the English National Curriculum - adapted for the local context - and all children are English-speaking. We rejoice in the wonderful variety that over 20 different nationalities bring to our school. Glenealy - is blessed with supportive parents, an active PTA, committed staff and, most importantly, a student body who are a delight to teach.
