A Brief Introduction of Hong Kong Metro
By:BoBo Wang

MTR, also Mass Transit Railway, first began service in Hong Kong in 1979. The MTR system is a common mode of public transport in Hong Kong, offering efficiency and affordability, with over 4 million trips made in an average weekday.
If you want to use the shortest time to visit the most scenic spots, MTR could be said to be the most convenient, timely and reliable means of transport, especially during peak hours. Lines loop continuously which can reach almost all scenic spots in Hong Kong and tourists can make a transit at many stations.

Airport Express links the principal urban areas of Hong Kong to Hong Kong International Airport and it only take 24 minutes from the airport to the Central. Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line, and Tseung Kwan O Line run more frequently for 2 to 3 minutes, Tung Chung Line for about 4-5 minutes, and the Airport Express flights for 12 minutes.
Metro only accepts exclusive tickets or Octopus cards, all kinds of tickets are available in the subway station vending machines or the Customer Service Centre.
Octopus Card can be used for MTR Lines and Airport Express Line.

Fare will be deducted automatically into the gates. There is also an Airport Express Tourist Octopus Card and the holders can take subways without limits within three days, once Airport Express line and also can use for a variety of means of Octopus card transports. Airport Express Tourist Octopus Card is suitable for tourists who visit Hong Kong for only a few days. If you come to Hong Kong frequently, Octopus Card is advised.
Tourist Day Pass is available for tourists to have a day unlimited rides on the MTR (with the exception of the Light Rail, all MTR Bus routes, the 1st Class of the East Rail Line, the Airport Express, as well as journeys to and from Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau and Racecourse stations). Each pass costs $55 and are available at all the MTR Customer Service Centres.

Tourist Day Pass should be used within 30 days upon the day of issue.
One-way ticket is only applicable to ticket-assigned trains and permitted to be used within the same day. The price depends on the distance. Adult fares range from HK$3.00 to $47.50 (US$0.40–6.15).

Concessionary fares are usually half the adult fare, and range from HK$1.40 to $23.80. Student fares are the same as child and elderly fare on the urban lines, but are the same as the Adult fares for journeys to or from checkpoint terminuses, and range from HK$1.40 to $39.40.
As mentioned above, MTR is the most convenient and economic means of transport in Hong Kong. Experiencing Hong Kong metro is also one of top things to do in Hong Kong, such as the special Disneyland Line. MTR is usually the first choice for most of tourists visiting Hong Kong which can timely and efficiently send tourists to almost all Hong Kong attractions.
