By:BoBo Wang

Cheung Chau, a dumbbell-shape offshore island of Hong Kong, lies in the southwest of Hong Kong. It takes 30 to 55 minutes by sea from the Central.
As one of the most popular offshore islands of Hong Kong, Cheung Chau offers tourists an amazing landscape. Shops and stalls are standing row by row in the narrow streets alongside the sea where flash, fish, seafood, fruit and vegetables are sold.

Authentic restaurants and flavored snack bars spread in every corner of this small island.
Cheung Chau Municipal Services Building, located not far from the ferry pier, is a comprehensive-function building, a part being the government offices and the other the wet goods market. The market concentrates over 200 stalls selling fruit, vegetables, seafood, dried food, pickles, flowers, cloth fabric, etc with high quality but low prices. Tourists could buy the fresh seafood and take to the restaurants nearby for deep processing.

The opening time of this building is from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Visiting Cheung Chau, you would never worry about what to eat as there gather numerous Chinese restaurants, and most of the restaurants offer menus both in Chinese and English convenient for people from home and abroad. Besides, western-style restaurants and featured snack stalls are also worth a try.
Pak Tai Temple is the most famous Taoist temple in Cheung Chau which was built in 1783. A brass bell and an iron sword are the two treasures of the temple.
Cheung Chau is a good place for leisure swimming. Two main beaches of Cheung Chau Island are in East Bay and Kwun Yam Wan attracting a lot of people to come in every summer vacation. East Bay is the most popular swimming beach just a quarter hour walking from the ferry pier.

After Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996, Kwun Yam Wan becomes a hot tourist site on Cheung Chau, and many Hong Kong citizens come there due to the first Olympic gold medalist.
