The Five Big Connecting Lakes in north of China
By:BoBo Wang

The Five Big Connecting Lakes in Heilongjiang Province, China are barrier lakes formed by the surrounding 14 volcanoes eruptions. These five moniliform lakes are orderly called the Head Lake, the Second Lake, the Third Lake, the Forth Lake and the Fifth Lake form south to north. The total area of these lakes is 18.74 square meters.

The whole scenic spot possesses beautiful sceneries, and the volcanic vents nearby are preserved intact where the flow traces of lava are clearly seen. Due to volcanoes eruption, the natural cold mineral water is formed in abundance in this area. Generally speaking, among all mineral springs throughout the world, hot springs overnumber cold springs, toxic springs overnumber non-toxic springs, and bathable springs overnumber drinkable springs. Mineral springs of Five Big Connecting Lakes are bathable, drinkable, non-toxic and also cold, rich in macro elements and trace elements which are good for human bodies.

Rocks formed by volcano eruptions are vividly like dragons, trunks of elephants, or waterfalls. Other kind of “rock towers” piled up by lavas is also attractive, standing two to three meter high. Tourists also pay strong interests on the lava caves made by lava’s underground flow. When you visit this scenic spot, you could pick up some fancy lava rocks as a souvenir.

The five lakes, Yaoquanshan Park and Volcano Museum are the main tourist spots. The five lakes connect with each other, stretching 20 kilometers, and the water area reaches to 40 square meters with the deepest place being over a hundred meters. Yaoquanshan Mountain stands 350 meters high, and is the smallest one of all 14 volcanic cones. Mineral spring here is called “holy water” because of its healing function. Volcano Museum is actually the natural volcanic landforms. As volcanoes here erupted in the period of 1719 to 1721 which are the newest ones in China, the complete volcanic landforms are kept intact and this area is called to be volcanic museum.

If you travel to China in winter, Heilongjiang Province would be a good choice which is totally a world of snow and ice.
