Things to Do in Beijing
By:BoBo Wang

1. Skating on Shichahai
The most unique winter activity in Beijing is skating. More exciting than roller skating, skating on real and natural ice skating rink of Shichahai would be an impressive memory. Every winter, the calm lake would be frozen into thick ice above which people could skate. Besides, the old-styled small sledges would remind you of your precious and distant childhood.

2. Enjoy the snow at Fragrant Hill
Lots of people think Fragrant Hill appears most brilliant in autumn with overwhelming red leaves. However, Fragrant Hill’s charm is always embodied better by the winter snow. People who don’t feel like the regular route that tourists always go could choose to go along the more zigzagging paths. The snow-covered white mountain would bring a different feeling.

3. Make a wish at Lama Temple
On lunar 1st or 15th, Lama Temple is a right place to go. Hiding in the hustling urban area, the architecture in Lama Temple has a history of 300 years. The temple is said to be the most efficacious lama temple in Beijing which is a stunning mix of Tibetan Buddhism and traditional Buddhism. If the wish you made here came true, don’t forget to fulfill the promise back in the temple.

4. Overlook the sunset Forbidden City from Jingshan Mountain
Forbidden City is the must-go attraction for people who are fond of history. Situated in the center of Beijing, Forbidden City served as the imperial palace during Ming and Qing Dynasties, and 24 emperors had ever lived there. Jingshan Mountain opposite to the north gate of Forbidden City is the best place to overlook the whole imperial palace. Dusk is the perfect time when the red walls and golden tiles are reflected more gorgeous and glorious.

5. Fly a kite at Tiananmen Square
Tiananmen Square, one of the largest city square worldwide, is probably the broadest place in Beijing. It is also a suitable place for people to fly a kite. Among all outdoor activities, flying a kite might be one of the most interesting activities. Grandparents, children, couples and sometimes a whole family have fun on the square. The kites are also various, like facial makeup, centipede, swallow, eagle, etc. Do remember to keep away from the flagpole, and otherwise it would be troublesome once the kite lines twist round it.
