Why don`t you try to contact a school by yourself ?
Every Chinese school has an English department.
Ask them to give you the e-mail addresses of the previous and present teachers. ( then, you can find out if something is wrog at that school ).

There are some postings on www.eslteachersboard.com, where recruiters are not involved. ( not too many ).
Send them an e-mail !

Check the teachers` resumes postings on this site !
Teachers are living home or they want to work in another city after a one-year contract.
Contact them and ask details about their schools in China ! They are willing to help ! They know very well, what`s going on here.

I am spending some money checking the schools by myself every year. This term, I found a Chinese friend to do this for me. I pay him for his pains, but I get a good job. Anyway a Chinese recruiter gets 4000-9000RMB/year for doing almost nothing ( some phone calls and e-mails ). Do they deserve this money ?
There are many nice and honest Chinese people willing to help me. ( many decent people in China are looking even for an occasional job ).
