Preventing Writer's Block
By:Nicole Powell

Have you been a victim of writer's block? Just imagine, you are half way through completing a writing assignment and your mind suddenly decides to take "time out". Well, this happens quite frequently and will affect writers of any age and status.

As a writer there are some external factors that you will have to take into consideration. Where are you working from, are you relaxed, do you work better in a secluded office, can you work in an atmosphere that is prone to noise or traffic, or do you prefer to scribble on paper and then to a central processing unit?

To reduce writers' block you must aim at becoming more organized. The first thing you will need to do is to pool your ideas on a given subject matter. The intention is for you to brainstorm as many points as possible on the topic in focus. You will then use your strongest points to strengthen your writing.

Choosing a work area that is attuned to your comfort, will definitely get you going, while you strive to keep your thoughts on what is pleasing and positive. Always tell yourself that you have what it takes to become the best writer possible. Replace negative thoughts about your inabilities, with positive and encouraging ones.

Sometimes you will have to put the pen down, take a break, and return with a clear mind, that is overflowing with ideas. It is important that you do something that really relaxes you, listen to something inspirational, or take deep breaths. You must endeavor to engage in an activity that will leave you invigorated.

The break feels good, but do not get too comfortable. Do not drop your writing for more than one (1) day at a time. Strive to stay on top of things and nourish your mind with fresh ideas and good thoughts.

It is imperative that you organize yourself, remember that once you set the ground work, everything else will fall into place. To that end you will be more relaxed and your thoughts will flow more freely.
