5 Things To Look For When Choosing Live Streaming Video To Communicate
By:Monica Kok

Here are 5 things to look for to create a powerful experience:

1. Simplicity

Let us assume you want to live broadcast on the Internet and invite viewers to join you by logging on to your ‘live broadcast’. You want to consider the number of steps and activities involved for both you (the broadcaster) and your online viewers. For example, if your viewers have to download software, install packages, use special plug-ins or go through various steps, they are far less likely to ‘show up’.

2. Versatility

Ideally you want all your live streaming video functionality under one roof. Using different providers for different functionalities are just not user friendly.

Also, look for providers that allow viewing in multiple formats (such as windows media player, flash etc.).

3. Cost

The biggest cost is to save your live streaming video on a server. This is why ‘Instant messaging’ is almost always free as nothing is saved. Do not expect to find good quality live video broadcast, video emails or streaming video from your website, for free. If you do, there is always a limit to how long it will be stored (usually 30 days). This is because providers then make money from the ‘up-sell’.

Live broadcast facilities can range from thousands of dollars per month to less than $10 per month (albeit limiting your number of live viewers at any given time). No need to break the bank.

4. Streaming Quality

The external influences (those factors that a provider have no control over), that affects the quality of the streaming, is the viewer’s broadband speed and bandwidth. However, some providers still make for a very ‘choppy’ viewing experience regardless. A web-based solution is also preferable. This way videos (which are large files) are not downloaded or stored on your or your viewers’ computers.

5. Archiving ability

Find out what is involved in archiving videos, recordings and broadcasts and whether additional costs apply. Ideally you want a provider that archives your recordings automatically once recorded and you must be in full control of your content.

One provider that I have found that brings all of this together is Helloworld. Start your live streaming video communication today. You can ready to broadcast your ‘Live Television show’ in less than an hour and create a more personal message with high impact.
