Volunteering Abroad
Private volunteers in archaeology & art - Ecuador
I will be helping a private museum get off the ground this winter. It is located in the peaceful village of Jama, coastal Ecuador. If you would like to help in any way, for a day or a week etc., think about meeting up perhaps in the nearby town of Bahia. I want to make displays, catalogue and protect existing ceramic and stone artifacts that have been rescued from the Jama River. Together the preColumbian fragments can tell the story of the Jama native people, before the Spanish invasion. Clean and private cabanas rent for as little as $5 a day (or even $3 for a room) and locals are quite friendly. Food is cheap, $1.50 for lunch. There is a Spanish and English school in this community run by an expat American. A good beach is just a bus ride away 25 cents. I plan to go tubing on the Jama River, habitat for thousands of tree iguana.
