Travel Truths That Will Always Catch Up With You

It doesn’t really matter whether you are one of those meticulous and go-by-the-book travelers or simply the fancy and footloose types without a care in the world, there are certain travel truths that will always catch up with you. You would have tended to dismiss them as just bad luck unless you really think about it and guess what? They seem to be happening all the time to you. Despite whatever tactic you plan, you will never ever be able to dodge them.

The Plane’s Temperature Will Either Be Too High or Too Low

Watch out for this one, it will always be true. When you board the plane it will be stuffy and very warm. You don’t want to look troublesome so you keep silent thinking it would cool down now that you are through with jostling with co-passengers and cabin baggage, but it doesn’t, so you just mop your brow and look quizzically at the air-hostesses who royally ignores you. An hour into the flight, it really becomes chilly and you would have asked for the blanket if only you could muster up the courage. Forget it; just resign yourself to the fact that airplane air-conditioning and you don’t seem to agree on being comfortable. And the story repeats itself in the hotel room. Even if your room has all sorts of fancy thermostats, you are either sweating it out or shivering and scrambling around for extra blankets.

Your Baggage Will Be Among the Last to Arrive

No theory in the world can even attempt to explain this but this will invariably happen to you. Your bags will be among the last to arrive on the carousel just as you were beginning to feel panicky and thinking about raising Cain with the airlines. You will also discover that you have just too many pieces for you to comfortably handle. During the course of your trip it will become increasingly apparent that you’ve packed too many clothes and many of them are completely unsuitable for wearing in the country you are visiting – either the weather is all wrong or you’d be sticking out like a sore thumb. Why can’t you remember that most destinations have shops too and it was quite unnecessary for you to have packed all the toiletries that you actually did?

You Just Cannot Make Yourself Understood

You’ve been looking forward to that vacation abroad; so what if you cannot speak the local lingo? There’s a phrasebook with countless pages for every situation, you’ve even practised your best accent before the mirror and your friends have agreed that life shouldn’t be too difficult. The reality is somewhat disturbing; despite your best attempts, you find that it is impossible to make anybody understand what you are trying to communicate. And the most galling is that after you’ve spent a frustrating ten minutes or so asking for directions, the person opposite you just switches to English!

Others Would Have Had a Better Time

No matter to what extent you had planned your tip and made a list of what to see and what to do, it will be apparent that other folks who had visited the same destination always have had an exceptionally more enjoyable time. They not only knew about the more interesting places, the more scenic spots, the better hotels and restaurants but seem to have been there done that at a far lower cost too. You can keep on wondering why you never came to know about the stuff they did but there are never any convincing answers. You can always seek solace that you can never see everything while on vacations and invariably you will miss out on some good things. To make things worse, people back home never seem to find your travelogues remotely interesting even if they are ordinarily always glued to the travel and lifestyle channels on the television.
