Maintenance Guide And Cleaning Tips For Travel Luggage
By:Alan Cassidy

Do not neglect to clean and maintain your travel luggage if you want to add more years to its life. If you went to a lot of trouble finding an ideal travel bag, you should also go the extra mile in extending its life span.

This should not be time-consuming. Here are some simple guidelines on how you can maintain and clean your travel luggage:

Inspection should be done regularly.

Before and after your trip, inspect the bag for signs of damages. If there are any, fix them immediately. Sew torn edges or fix broken handles or zippers. Do not procrastinate as this might cause more luggage damages.

Clean your bag after your travel.

If it looks relatively clean, just try to vacuum it to remove inconspicuous dirt and dust. Use a small vacuum cleaner or a hand-held vacuum machine and run it all over the bag. Also vacuum the interior of the bag to get rid of debris.

Remove candy wrappers or receipts in the pockets of your bag. Also clean the caster wheels. Use a damp towel to remove crusty mud or stains in the wheels. Make sure you wipe away dirt at the bottom of the bag.

If you want to keep your travel luggage in good condition all the time, consider using a luggage protector.

This is traditionally a plastic protector that can cover your bag and prevent it from being exposed to external elements. You can try buying from stores that specialize in creating bag protectors. There are also stores that customize protectors so you can have one made for your bag if you can't find one that fits well from the array of choices in the other stores.

Fix rusty areas right away.

If the metal handle or the screws that hold the caster wheels are starting to rust, you should fix the problem right away. Try purchasing an anti-rust spray. Clean the area using sandpaper and then spray it on. This will prevent rust from spreading.

Sprinkle baking soda all over the luggage interior and exterior.

Baking soda can solve luggage odor issues. Just sprinkle it on the affected areas and leave it there for about an hour. After an hour, vacuum all parts of the bag. It should already smell clean and fresh.

These tips can help keep your travel luggage in top shape. Use these tips as your guide in adding more years to the life of your bag.
