How You Can Lost Your Bag In Flight

99.5 percent of the time out of 2 million, Americans get their checkedin bags upon arrival tells the US Department of Transportation. An opportunity of 5 percent is then seen for bags that have gone missing, been meddled with or damaged. Some may not think this unimportant yet, 10,000 bags are 5 percent of 2 million.

Disclosed by the Department of Transportation are figures that 80 percent of those reported bags get to the rightful hands no longer than 24 hours in addition to the 99 percent chance that it will be with them in five days. Irreversibly one percent of those bags will remain stolen or lost. Hence, each year around 36,500 a year will no longer be returned. Not sizable is the figure mentioned for the Department of Transportation except to those travelers who may not like being part of the one percent.

Many airlines would say that the main reason for bag loss is the late check in because they end up not making the flight. Apart from that bags vanish when passengers take connecting flights even if the airlines are just the same. People at the airport can wrongly tag a bag which can send it off to a different place. Bags do get stolen every now and then.

Do not delay the filing of a lost luggage statement with the airlines when you find your bag is gone. The bag can appear in 24 hours time.

One cannot rely on the help they give though since it is not in writing. One should be straight forward with the representative in order to ask for proper compensation. There is a 90 day period given to lost luggage before they are declared lot. A compensation of $1,250 maximum is then provided by airline companies to their passengers in domestic flights. The international flights however have a different basis and that is $640 per bag.

For carryin baggage, passengers are compensated up to $2,500 by many airlines. Those things such as computer, jewelry, musical instruments and money are left out in the compensation. The sources of the figures are the depreciated value of the things found inside the suitcase. Having receipts for everything will make filing a claim with the airlines a breeze, but most of us probably do not have them. Many time airlines will pay you back what you have lost, yet before you can get anything 60 days has to pass.

Baggage insurance can offer you valuables when traveling more security. Always read the homeowner's insurance policy first off before jumping into getting another one. Occasionally, there are policies that will cover offpremise theft.

It is always essential that you consult with an insurance agent since each policy has different connotations. Most of the time laptops or other gadgets do not get covered in the policy so you may need to pay extra. Always ascertain that the insurance you will be getting also covers things that you buy while you travel.
