Travel Tips

How to avoid jetlag
By:Travel Expert

Traveling by airplane can be really stressful sometimes, mostly because the human body is not used to high altitudes. Nevertheless, if you want to ease your journey as much as possible, take into consideration the following tips that might make you feel better once you’ve reached a destination that is 5,10 or even 20 hours away from your home.

• Get used to the time zone
Make sure that before leaving for your destination you change the time zone from your watch. Thus, it will be easier for you to adjust to the new environment and go through jet lag. Also, do not sleep at the wrong hours even if you’re tired and try to stay busy as long as possible. Therefore, once you’ll get to your destination you’ll already be accustomed to the time zone.

• Drink a lot of water
Due to the fact that the air on an airplane is dried out, travelers should constantly drink plenty of water. Hydration is very important if you want to maintain your body strong and fit. In addition, water will also make you feel less tense.

• Stay away from alcohol
Generally speaking, people think that alcohol can help them go through jet lag better. However, that’s not true at all. Alcohol and caffeine increase dehydration and you could start feeling dizzy or even sick.

• Sleeping during the night is a great idea
Some people sleep like babies in the airplane and it is advisable to try it out. Hence, you’ll have the feeling that you’ll get to your destination so much faster. Furthermore, you won’t have to worry about turbulences or any other factors that could make you anxious.

• Stay entertained
Even if you can’t sleep, jet lag stress can be easy to avoid if you stay entertained. Open your laptop and watch a movie, listen to some music or socialize with others. You’ll make time go faster and you might even succeed in facing your fears.

• In-flight exercise
Depending on the length of your trip, it’s not recommended to sit down all the time. Get up every once in a while, stretch your legs and you’ll certainly make your entire body feel so much better. Lift your knees while sitting down, relax your neck or move your hands up and down, in order to loosen up and get rid of the tension.

• Eat strategically
If you want to avoid jet lag make sure you take care of your diet. Try eating dry meals and ensure to take good care of your stomach. Usually, turbulences are affecting your body and you might feel sick if you eat the wrong food.

• Try to adapt by visiting a doctor
Once you’ve reached your destination, remember to sleep during the night and avoid naps during the day. In case it seems impossible and you have insomnia, pay a visit to the doctor and he might help you deal with the issue.
