Travel Tips

Tips on Traveling Abroad
By:Ramon Van Meer

It has been said by Saint Augustine that the world is a book and those who do not travel only read a page. There is so much to see and learn from other countries and cultures that travel does enrich one's mind and soul. It is not enough that one sees the sights and reads about the place on TV or the internet, one should be in the country itself to have experience and from one's own opinion and collect memories that are unique to the individual.

Travel has become more accessible in this day and age but it has also become more complex. There are a few things to remember when traveling abroad. First and foremost, take time to plan your trip. Choose a country, any country and read on guidebooks to that particular country. While you're at it, save as much money as you can for the flight, accommodations, food, activities that you plan to do. Bring extra money to be used in case of emergencies.

Make sure that your passport is up to date and that you have other documentation that customs might need when you arrive at a certain country. Invest in good walking shoes as you'll be doing a lot of that in different countries as it's the best way to actually see the sights. Decide on where to stay and how to get around the country. Make sure that hotel reservations are done and confirmed month ahead to the trip. There are even early bird packages that you could avail of.

If your shots are already updated, have purchased travel insurance and have some of the basic medicines for little sicknesses like travel sickness, headaches and stomachaches, you're good to go. Travel as lightly as you can and as much as possible do not have luggage for carryon. Airports are getting stricter with their rules of what to bring to the airplane itself and it will save you a lot of trouble if you don't have carryon luggage. Have a little pouch for your camera, money, and passport because that's basically all you'll need on the plane. With a bag that isn't full of your stuff, you can pack more souvenirs and gifts from the country that you visited. Upon arrival to another country, armed with what you have read from travel books, be respectful. That is the best thing that a traveler can do for the country that he visits.
