Travel Tips

Traveling Within a Budget
By:Vandana Makharia

Traveling cheap or on a budget is not easy, but definitely not that hard either. One has to set upper limits and then take care that it is not crossed.

So for example you are traveling on a budget of 700 dollars for 7 days including everything.

Two things you should work on:-

1. Set upper limits and don't exceed them e.g. if you can't spend more then 40 dollars on lodging for a day. Then stick to it, find something within your range even if it requires more effort.

2. Employ techniques which will help you cut the costs.

Ways to do cost cutting while traveling

- Try going with a friend or a group. It's always cheaper to find deals for more number of people then less.

- Try couch surfing or home exchange. This way you really don't spend anything on lodging part.

- Find a travel companion or local buddy to hang out with. This can be done through various buddy websites. Having a local known in the area will give you the edge by shopkeepers and hotels not quoting you high prices.

- If in a group, you can try hitch hiking and covering few distances this way. Traveling in group will make it safe and hitch hiking will save you lot of commute cost.

- Make use of Hostels or dorms instead of hotels for staying. They are a lot cheaper and satisfactory for short stays

- If you want to travel for longer periods like a year then you can try finding professional or cultural exchange programs, or volunteer schemes which will help you cut the basic costs. You can gain some experience as well as enjoy traveling.

- Travel as light as you can. Backpack instead of carrying that bulky luggage. It will make you more adaptable and vigilant to take quick actions!
