Tips For Making Your Backpacking Itinerary
By:Matt Blaschuk

Are you going on a backpacking trip, but don't know how to start planning? There are a few easy questions that can help you make your backpacking itinerary.

How much do you have to spend? You must know what your budget is for your trip, as this will influence every other major factor when planning. It is important to figure out a dollar amount that you estimate you will spend per day, so you can plan what you are able to see and how you are going to get around. Add a few extra dollars per day, as prices are usually a bit higher than you will find when researching.

What types of sights do you like to see? This is a big factor when planning your trip. There are many different types of attractions to visit, such as museums, historical sights, natural sights, and cultural sights. Most destinations only offer one or two of these types of attractions, so it is important to know what interests you to make sure you can visit sites that appeal to you. Guidebooks can be a great resource.

How are you going to get around? Transportation is mostly influence by your determined budget. If you have a minimal budget, you will most likely travel using regional buses or trains between destinations. If you have a larger budget, then high-speed trains and flights are also available to you. Obviously the modes of travel with a minimal budget will take significantly longer than traveling on a larger budget. Factor this is in to your itinerary as it will greatly affect how your itinerary is laid out.

Do you want to lie on the beach or want to spend your time partying? Most backpackers like to kick back and relax for a few days or have some time to party and have fun. Doing some research on destinations prior to leaving will show you which destinations have the best beaches and the best nightlife. Do not assume that if a city is on the coast then it will have a beach, as this is not true for some destinations.

How much time do you have to backpack? It is important to consider much travel time you have and what can realistically see, given your budget and mode of transportation. Don't attempt to visit too many destinations in your time frame, as you will most likely fall behind and miss attractions on your trip. Using your budget and mode of transport, plan your itinerary with extra time at each destination in case take longer than expected. This will allow you to make it to all your desired attractions.
