Pattaya City - Perfect For A Vacation Or A New Home
By:Jeremy C.

The second most visited city in Thailand is Pattaya City. It is a self governing city that covers the whole local government unit of Nong Prue, Na Kluea. The population fluctuates between 300,000 and 500,000 at any given time, and is also the center of the Pattay-Chonburi Metropolitan Area.

The reason behind Pattaya City being the second most visited city in Thailand would be its location on the Gulf of Thailand. During the Vietnam War a group of 100 American men fighting in the war came to the city to relax. From there the city went from a fishing village to a popular beach resort and harbors Asia's largest beachfront shopping mall, welcoming over 3 million visitors a year.

Many of the residents of the city include foreign retirees. Thai Immigration created a specific Visa for foreigners over the age of 50 years old who come to retire in Thailand. This is a popular choice not only because of the climate and exotic lifestyle but also the cost of living is a tiny proportion in comparison to the cost of living in Europe. On average the climate is tropical and wet. The dry months are from November to February and the most rain comes between June and October. The temperature stays consistently close to 90 degrees. An average low would be 72 degrees in December and the most rain happens in October with an average of 9 and a half inches accumulated.

As a vacation get away there is plenty to partake in when visiting Pattaya City. Establishments for golf, go-kart racing, theme parks, and zoos exist for tourists to explore. Another unique experience would be The Vimantaitalay, a tourist submarine that takes visitors underwater to see coral and marine life. In a more historical aspect there is the Wat Khao Phra Bat Temple, The Sanctuary of Truth, and Mini Siam - a miniature model village - all of which commemorate the Thailand heritage. Tourists can also visit the Wat Yanasangwararam Woramahawihan temple where there is a replica of Buddha's footprints and a collection of relics of the Lord Buddha.

Visitors can also partake in the many festivals and events of the city, such as the Pattaya International Bed Race, The Chinese New Year, an international music festival and the Miss Tiffany Universe or the Miss International Queen election. Pattaya also participates in a Gay Pride festival as well.

With the extensive property development, retiring foreigners and visitors are sure to find a home in Pattaya. Whether looking for a relaxing vacation or a new home to enjoy the Thailand culture, the cultural differences and similarities will create comfort for any length of time spent in this rising city.
